Come on a barefoot forage over the rockpools of Carswell Farm’s fabulous beach with Forager Trudy Turrell – then cook up a wild food supper! Wandering through fields to the sea, you’ll learn to forage tender early summer edible plants and how to sustainably harvest mineral rich seaweeds.
Returning to Carswell’s Field Kitchen, we’ll prepare and cook wild food together, then share an early supper. Expect a plant based tasting menu of seaweeds, plus salads, a savoury, dessert and wild teas and a nip of wild gin!
Be prepared for one steep climb with steep steps to the beach, clambering over rockpools and fabulous views!
7 year olds and up can forage but younger siblings welcome for the walk (it is steep and the foot path to the beach needs full supervision as uneven in many places). Children must be accompanied by parents or adult carers.
Please bring suitable footwear for walking across fields, coast paths and rockpools.
Due to the nature of Carswell Farm, this forage isn’t suitable for anyone with mobility impairment and no dogs.

Words by Trudy Turrell
“I have been fascinated by wild foods for most of my life. Working in conservation in South Devon for 20 years gave me the privilege to explore the hidden valleys, coastline, estuaries and woodlands and experience nature daily at first hand. I love to use wild food in favourite recipes and explore ways of preserving it. Sharing knowledge and good food together is a fabulous way to spend time in nature. I have led foraging events for the National Trust, South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Deer Wood Trust, Ackerll’s Rewilding Project and for families and celebrations. I have led forages at Carswell Farm for Newton Ferrers Primary School for several years. Now, thanks to the owners, I have the chance to share the wild riches of over a thousand acres of carefully managed organic land and seashore with you. “
