South Devon is home to a great deal of exceptional producers of food and drink, many of which are organic. Below you will find some of these producers, as well as ideas of where to do your grocery shopping nearby.

Local shopping

Fresh fish

Plymouth Fisheries is located at Sutton Harbour next to the National Marine Aquarium (9.5 miles). Most fish is sold wholesale with some merchants such as Moby Nicks also selling to the public. Go early in the morning (from 6.30am) to pick up a bargain – a very unique experience!

 

Local markets

Ivybridge (9 miles): Held in Glanvilles Mill car park every Thursday.

Plymouth Indoor Market (11 miles): Located in the city centre, the market is open Monday to Saturday plus occasional Sundays.

Kingsbridge (15 miles): Held in the Town Square every Tuesday. A Farmers & Craft Producers Market is on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month.

Totnes (19 miles): Held in the Civic Hall car park every Friday and Saturday. The Good Food Market is on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

Dartmouth (26 miles): Held in The Old Market Square every Friday plus Tuesdays and Thursdays in high season.

 

Organic produce

Ben’s Farm Shop, near Yealmpton on the A379 (4 miles). The shop sells a large range of organic and local fruit, vegetables, bread, pies, wines and other produce. It also has a café.

 

Pick your own

Pips Pick Your Own at Kitley Farm, near Yealmpton on A379 (4 miles). A huge range of produce is available at various points throughout the season, including strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb, apples, courgettes, squash and asparagus.

 

Supermarkets

The nearest store is a very small Co-Op in Newton Ferrers (3.5 miles), where you can get most essentials. A slightly larger Co-Op is found in Modbury (7 miles).

Morrisons is in Plymstock (8.5 miles), just before Laira Bridge on the way into Plymouth.

Tesco Extra is at Lee Mill (7 miles), just off the A38 near Ivybridge.

Sainsburys is at Marsh Mills (10.5 miles), just off the A38 on the way into Plymouth.
